It’s kind of ironic that a country that pulled out of the official Eurovision Song contest back in 1993, is in 2014, about to host a Eurovision Gala Night celebration that apparently is the biggest in Europe! Or maybe it is actually because the country pulled out? Who knows, but Luxembourg is about to do exactly that on 25th October in the big Chapito hall of Casino 2000 in Mondorf.
Virtually all countries in Europe have their own kind of charity event next to the ‘real deal’ but then most countries also participate in the Eurovision too. Luxembourg’s very own Eurovision Gala Night in its seventh year has grown up very quickly, hence the move this year to one of the Grand Duchy’s largest venue halls.
In doing so, organisers OGAE Luxembourg (Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l’Eurovision) have managed to shape Europe’s biggest event of its kind and convince previous Eurovision winners to come and perform too.
You can’t have failed to notice the big news in the press that this year’s winner, Conchita Wurst was in the line-up but cancelled at the very last minute, only to be replaced with the lovely Swede Loreen who won Eurovision in 2012 with “Euphoria”. Then there’s Alexander Rybak with his violin, winning for Norway in 2009, and to make up a trio Linda Martin who won for Ireland in 1992. This is quite impressive for little Luxy. In fact the whole night is supported by the Ministry of Culture!
Song contest supported by FUZE!
But first and foremost Eurovision is a song competition and this is the reason for FUZE getting involved. 16 talented local singers will be climbing onto Chapito’s huge stage to sing a song for a country they represent. So we’re still supporting local music, all be it in a slightly different way than usual. Virtually all singers are from Luxembourg, with one or two based just over the border, and each of them has chosen a song and country from previous Eurovision song contests.
So let’s meet the 16 finalists listed below in the order they will be singing! You can click each one to see their audition video…
You can vote for your favourite on the official event website – CLICK HERE!
It’s all going to be a lot of fun and the contestants will be judged in virtually the same way as the real thing with a big scoreboard and points method. There will be a panel of 16 international judges and FUZE is also involved here too
So for a fun night of Eurovision in all its kitschy glory you really should head on down to Casino 2000 at Mondorf-les-Bains on Saturday 25th October. Doors open 7pm and everything starts at 8pm! Oh and don’t forget to dress smart!
